Our Five-Phase College Process
Increase the chances of a positive college outcome for your family by following our comprehensive college process. We will be with you every step of the way.
Phase1: Self Assessment & Inquiry
Orientation
An introductory session for clients to assimilate the InfoQuest system. Advisor will interview the student and familiarize the client with planning tools.
Assessment
Exploring interest, aptitudes, abilities, personality, and learning styles to help define the career path that is the best fit for the student.
Phase 2: Planning, Package, & Prep
Goals & Academic Planning
During this insightful process, students should generate a plan that reflects their personal and educational goals, makes the most of the high school experience, and prepares them for college and beyond.
Career & Major Exploration
After reviewing the findings of the assessment results students will have a better understanding of whom they are allowing them to explore deeper. Using our tools, having conversations, and connecting students with the community will allow advisors to give the students options to learn about and consider.
Student
Positioning
Student positioning is the strategies a student must use to put them in the best place for colleges to extend an invitation to attend. Implementing strategies such as making appropriate course selections, creating a summer plan, and finding leadership opportunities can make students more competitive. Also, students will gain an understanding of how grades and personal choices can affect outcomes.
Standardized Testing Analysis & Preparation
PSAT, NMSQT, AP, SAT, ACT...so many tests and different test scoring systems. Knowing how these tests are structured and expectations for each can help prepare students to know how to study and choose a test that best suits them.
Phase 3: College Exploration
College Search & Visit
Learn how to look for the right college for you and how to maximize your college search and visit results. We will discuss how to get the best return on investment from your college choice.
College Research
Identify and prioritize college criteria based on academic, social, and financial fit. Use many resources to evaluate those areas of fit. Have an open mind to discover schools you may not be aware of allows students to discover additional colleges that may better align with their dreams.
College List Development
After much research, it is time to refine the college choices to include an appropriate distribution of schools that are a best-fit. This list will be tailored to the student’s need and have likely, target, and reach colleges.
Phase 4: College Admissions Portfolio
Resume & Recommendations
Learn how to create an effective college resume to market the student to colleges and share with individuals writing recommendations.
Essay Brainstorming, Construction & Review
Learn how to choose a topic that will help students stand out. Understand what makes a good essay, and brainstorm to generate ideas for essay topics. The students' essays will get a comprehensive, review so they can take action on revising the essay for final submission.
College Applications
Learn what the colleges are looking for and how to put your best foot forward. Students will review the different kinds of applications and be prepared to tackle them effectively and efficiently. Students will receive assistance in consolidating their applications and organizing milestones and deadlines.
Interview Preparation
Learn the “dos” and “don'ts” of how to make a great impression. Find out what questions may be asked and how to prepare.
Scholarship Guidance
Additional assistance to complete other competitive scholarship applications that are not a part of the traditional college application process.
Phase 5: Decisions & Transitioning to College
College Selection Evaluation
During the acceptance waiting game is a good time to reevaluate what about college is important to the student, review offers as received, make additional discoveries and coordinate with financial advisor for financial fit.
Next Steps
Although, applications are completed, and responses are coming in that is not the end of our relationship. Many times, the hardest decision is making that final decision. We will help guide you to determine which school best meets the student’s and family’s needs, review documents, decipher financial aid award letters and explain the next steps in the process.
College Transition
Graduation is near and your college is chosen, but the work is not done. You must prepare for summer orientation and class registration. We will help students review their potential degree plan and know what credits they earn from AP, Dual Credit, or IB courses. This will allow students to have a preliminary course list when meeting their campus advisor. Also, the transition can be tough if students are not prepared to deal with making their own life or college decisions, home sickness, time management, and professor or roommate relationships, so we take the time to discusses these issues.
